Wayne County Soil and Water manages weed harvesting for Port Bay and other nearby bays. Here is the latest update from the District Manager Lindsey Gerstenslager...
The Soil & Water Conservation District's Weed Harvesting program has been met with challenge after challenge this season. The first week of operation the District's trailer for moving the harvesters, was stuck on a site and in the process of removing it from the muck, an axle on the trailer was broken. Without an operational and safe trailer, it is too much of a risk to try to move equipment without potential that in transit or unloading a by standard or team crew member would be hurt.We immediately requested a repair quote from a trusted provider but due to COVID19 supply shortages, a replacement axle was quoted 3-4 months out. The District's Board and Management are working with local businesses to see if a axle fabrication is possible in a shorter turn around, however contractor availability is limited due to the backlog of work from 2020. It is not the information we want to share but it is the truth to the limitations we have with specialize equipment. We will know more in the next week of the potential opportunity to get to Port Bay and East Bay in August. More information will be forthcoming and will be updated to the PBIA/EBIA timely as well as update to the calendar on the District's website: https:// waynecountynysoilandwater.org/ calendar/
Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions?
Sincerely,
Lindsey
