Opening of Whistlewood Trail: Karen Lynch
-
Karen introduced herself as the voice of the residents on the end of West Port Bay Road. Karen hikes the woods and the Whistlewood Trail.
-
This trail is open to the public and hunting is allowed
-
There are maps displaying this trail – go to DEC website, Wildlife Management, “Lake Shore Marshes”
-
In 2021, Karen walked the trail with DEC representative Frank Morlock.
-
DEC requested commitment from PB to keep trails clipped and DEC will clean 2 times each year
-
Logging is a concern
-
Frank wants maps and additional parking spots (parking would be on State property.
-
Frank stated that there would only be parking for 3-4 vehicles
-
Karen’s concern is that cars will park on private land. And she is also concerned about traffic increase.
-
Owners on West Port Bay Road are concerned about privacy
-
Karen mentioned a concern about trash being left behind.
-

-
Complaints made about dogs barking. This is not new, dogs bark now at hikers.
-
Do we think traffic will increase? Karen said this could happen with organized events.
-
Whistlewood Trail is already on Google Maps.
-
PBIA will talk to Frank Morlock (DEC)
-
We are not currently making a decision; we are fact finding/gathering.
-
