July 9, 2021

7:00 p.m.

Attendees:  Lori Furguson, Jeff Auser, Becky Hilbert, Terry Palis, Jon Post, Kory Post, Mike Faillace,

Opening Remarks: Myrtle

  • Thank You to all for the successful July 3rd and July 4th. And for the Annual Meeting on June 5th.  Received all positive comments on the Annual Meeting.  People liked the $20 cost.

 Memorial for Charlie Price:

  • It was discussed and agreed to establish an Honorary Board Membership for Charlies and post his picture on the website as our forever board member.

Approval of June 4, 2021 Minutes and the Annual Meeting June 5, 2021 Minutes

  • Motion for Approval made by Myrtle Furguson
  • Seconded by Jon Post
  • Minutes approved

Changes to Board Members:

  • Kory Post has volunteered to join the PBIA. She will handle merchandise.  Motion made by Jeff Auser to approve Kory’s position.  Second by Terry. 
  • Jon Post will work with Greg on the electrical/mechanical side of the Channel lights. He will not be involved with vendors.

Memberships:

  • Membership applications continue to come in.
  • Kory suggested a door-to-door solicitation for memberships and to use Facebook to promote PBIA.
  • It was also suggested to offer discounts for members when joining.

Treasurer’s Report:          Dave Pulver:

  • Report was reviewed and will be discussed at the next meeting
  • Approved costs for the following:
    • Boat Parade $200
    • $44 for name tags for annual dinner
    • $26 Prize for longest drive at the Golf tournament
    • $655 for merchandize
  • Motion to above and pay the above expenses was made by Jeff Auser and seconded by Mike Faillace. All approved.

  • Terry reported that there have been excellent postings on the site!

Merchandise:         Kory Post

  • Order was placed for: Hats, Long sleeve T-shirts, Hoodies, Canvas Totes, Tumblers.  Total dollars spent on this order $3,100.  After all sales, PBIA will make a profit of $1,738
  • Kory suggested a once-a-month pop-of-sale maybe at Toadz or Bayfront.
  • The pop-up sale held on July 4th was a huge success.
  • It was also suggested to set-up a merchandise table at the July 31st Concert and at the September 5th Fishing Derby

REDI (Resiliency Economic Development Initiative):  Myrtle:   The projects funded with dollars are in the planning process and the Board will continue to be involved and provide updates.

  • WEEDS: Weed Harvesters were supposed to arrive on July 6th.  Myrtle sent a follow-up email to Lindsey – as of July 9th, Lindsey has not answered.

Events:

  • June 5, 2021 Golf Tournament –Chris Forster
    • 16 teams competed.  Another successful event.  We need more volunteers to assist next year in keeping this event successful.
  • Rooftop Concert on July 31st – Chris Forster
    • Need volunteers to go boat-to-boat
    • Merchandise table will be set up.
    • It was suggested to give donations to the Wayne County Food Cupboard
  • Fishing Derby – Terry Palis
    • Fishing Derby will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 7 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Weigh in will be held at the Bayfront from 11:00 to 11:30
    • Merchandise table will be set up at the end of the fishing derby from 11:00 to Noon.
    • Add Bull Head category to Derby?
  • 50/50 Raffle: Winner:   Ted & Nancy Marshall and they donated all the winnings back into the PBIA
  • Boat Parade – Myrtle
    • Boat parade was a success. Great pictures on the website.
    • A suggestion was asked if the direction of the boat parade could be changed for next year.
    • Next year’s boat parade theme will be “Mardi Gras”
  • Fireworks/Barge/Flares - Myrtle
    • Fireworks were a big success.
    • $1,500 invoice was paid to LaValley
    • Bring a team together to work on a backup plan regarding getting the Barge into Port Bay in the future years due to Lake Ontario conditions.
    • Jeff suggested we increase the budget for 2022 Fireworks
    • It was also suggested to add music to the fireworks.
  • Walking Trail: Terry
  • A walk through this trail was held with Frank Morlock (DEC).
  • Frank said the DEC would come onto the trail with power equipment to remove fallen trees, etc.
  • Frank asked if the PBIA could send a letter to DEC confirming their support in re-opening this trail.
  • DEC will build a parking lot near this walking trail. But ask DEC if we could use the current parking lot.
  • DEC also mentioned that residents along West Port Bay Road are using DEC land for parking cars, boats, trailers. DEC will be addressing this with the residents in the future.
  • The trail will strictly be used for walking/running/skiing. No motorized vehicles such as golf cards or snowmobiles will be allowed on this trail.
  • It was suggested that the name of the trail will be: Whistlewood Trail Extension.

Additional Topics:

  • Bayfront Restaurant: waiting for liquor license to be approved.  Once license is approved, the Bayfront will open.
  • Mike Faillace suggested bringing vendors in to meet with the PBIA Board:
    • Young
    • LaValley
    • Decker
  • Update the information for Board of Directors
  • Join Blind Sodus Bay and SBIA in the future. Jeff will review

Next Meeting:        August 13, 2021 at 7pm.  Location to be determined.
