PBIA Minutes

August 16, 2024 @ 7:00 p.m.

Location: Lyons National Bank

 

Attendees: Lori Furguson, Paul Way, Terry Palis, Becky Hilbert, Francine Miller, Craig Miller, Susie Mattle, Chip Compertore, Brian Thompson, Jon Post, Korey Post

Absent: Chris Forster, Alina Palis, Mike Faillace, Jeff Auser

Opening Remarks: Lori Furguson

  • Welcome – “Let there be Light”
  • Introduction of Francine & Craig Miller. Fran will manage the future annual dinners and partner with Paul Way on communications. Craig will be the Treasurer for PBIA.
  • Motion to approve the addition of Francine Miller and Craig Miller to the PBIA Board made by Lori Furguson
  • Seconded by Jon Post
  • All in favor. Welcome aboard Francine and Craig

Approval of July 12, 2024, Minutes

  • Motion for Approval made by Jon Post
  • Seconded Korey Post
  • Minutes Approved

2025 Annual Dinner & Golf Tournament

  • The 2025 Annual Dinner is schedule for June 7, 2025
  • The 2025 Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 14, 2025
  • Both events will be communicated in September 2024.

Treasury Report: Alina emailed the report to all

  • Another check sent out to Youngs Explosives for $11,500. First check was returned from Post Office as non-deliverable
  • Motion for approval of report made by Lori Furguson
  • Seconded by Susie Mattle
  • Treasury Report approved

Membership:

  • No updates
  • Suggestion was made to re-design the Membership Sticker. Maybe “waves and sun”

Fishing Derby: Terry Palis/Brian Thompson

  • Fishing Derby will be held on September 1, 2024, at the Bay Front
  • Merchandise will be for sale from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Derby ends at 11:30
  • Hot Dogs/Rolls and chips
  • Chip volunteered to help with the weigh in’s

Channel Lights: Lori Furguson

  • Radec installed the Channel lights and the light on the sign.
  • Red Channel marker light is installed
  • $3,100 invoice received from Radec and approved for payment.

Weed Harvesting:

  • Wayne County Soil & Water manages the weed harvesting. We can call Wayne County Soil & Water and ask for the Port Bay water testing results and when is the next testing.

Merchandise: Korey Post

  • Out of hats and visors
  • 3XL sweatshirt will be ordered
  • Will do another on-line pop-up sale before December
  • Zip-up sweatshirts are in high demand
  • Korey will do another inventory
  • Free shipping on any orders over $1,200
  • Korey will order additional merchandise to sell at the Fishing Derby
  • Motion to approved $1,200 for new merchandise made by Paul Way
  • Seconded by Becky Hilbert
  • Approved

Channel Dredging:

  • Channel is good

Beaver Creek/Culvert:

  • The Town of Huron agreed to do the construction of this project.
  • Start date is scheduled for the first full week of September.
  • Still waiting for permit from the DOS
  • Permit from the DEC has been received
  • Grant was issued over 3 years ago to improve water flow to Beaver Creek

NOAA:

  • The Lake Ontario Sanctuary is complete. There will be a designation ceremony on September 6th in Oswego.
  • A link with all information was provided: https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/lake-ontario/
  • The Port Bay Exclusion is found in the document. Channel dredging at Port Bay is not an issue.
  • Wayne County Soil & Water will be holding a meeting on September 18th

Entertainment

  • Fran provided information regarding a concert being held on the Bay on 9/14/2024 from 2-4 p.m. managed by Josh Ketchum. All donations will be given to Ronald McDonald House.
  • PBIA will support this event in the form of communication/marketing.

New Business: Private Property

  • Myrtle was called on by an anonymous person on Facebook to respond to issues regarding personal property improvement(s).
  • PBIA has zero authority on personal property
  • Any improvements/work that property owners want to do to their property is between property owners and town/state authorities.
  • Myrtle and Becky will work with wording to place on the PBIA website and possibly do a constant message to inform Port Bay residents that the PBIA has no authority in regard to personal property.

New Business: Testing Water Quality in Port Bay

  • Email received from Julie Aldrich asking for PBIA to support/partner on the writing of a grant.
  • Myrtle will forward the email from Julie to the Board and respond to Julie.
  • PBIA will support – and inquire about what participation is being asked for.

Future Topics:

  • Should we consider buying our own Barge to accommodate fireworks, concerts?
  • Should we consider buying a small weed harvester to go in between docks?
  • Suggestion made to hire music entertainment for the Annual Dinner.
  • Suggestion made to add a new sign on the other side of channel sign: Myrtle suggested “There’s No Place Like Port Bay”
