PB Channel Update

Apr 9, 2020

2020 Channel

As many of you know the dredging of our channel has not happened at this point. Currently we have been talking to Decker Excavating. Covid Virus and Essential & NON-Essential has delayed the channel opening. Currently we have an estimated date of 4/27/20 to start work. We will keep you updated if anything changes.

Good afternoon Greg:
The Port Bay Channel is important to access for Port Bay to Lake Ontario Recreation. I understand much of the membership would like to get out for fishing on the Lake but would encourage them to consider working on the recreational fishing on the Bay for just a little bit longer. With the high water the last few years, they may notice a considerable difference of stock size and variety. I want to caution people about the social distancing on a boat with people you do not know. NYSDEC is running a campaign currently for fishing season. I attached the poster.

I followed up with Jeff Decker and do to the recent restriction on construction for non-essential construction at this time, he has decided to work on essential work until April 27th when the "federal" restriction is lifted.  I also have to follow the inspection guidelines for nonessential construction through April 27th for the additional work being completed for the improvement of the East Barrier Bar.

I know the membership does not want to miss any of the seasonal opportunities and for that I apologize. Unless Executive Order 202.6 is lifted before the 27th, the membership can expect the channel to be open that week.

Please share this information with the membership. My apologies. It is really a weird time in NY and we just need to live through it as safe and healthy as possible.

Sincerely,
Lindsey
