PBIA Annual Membership Meeting Minutes
June 8, 2024

Meeting called to order on June 8, 2024 at 5:50 p.m.

- Thank you to Jackie Rose & Jean Gumina for greeting and checking in members and providing name tags.
- Thank you to Vicki Bourbonnais & Korey Post for managing the sale of merchandise
- Thank you to Brian Thompson for managing the success of another annual Golf Tournament
- Thank you to Anne Schulte and Francine Miller for organizing and managing the set-up of the annual dinner.
Secretary Report: Becky Hilbert
- A brief reading of the June 10, 2023 Secretary Report was given. Details of the report can be found on the PBIA website.
- Motion made to approve the secretary report by Jeff Auser
- Seconded by Paul Way
- Secretary Report approved
Treasurer’s Report:
- Treasurer’s Report 2023 in the annual meeting brochure
- Question on Square Fee
- Question on should we increase the membership fee?
- Myrtle stated that it may come to that, but currently - we do have $204,000 in the budget
- Question on the percentage of people that join PBIA
- Currently there are 350 properties on Port Bay. 270 of these are members.
- Motion made by Jeff Auster to approve Treasury Report
- Seconded by Terry Palis
- Treasurer’s Report 2023 approved
Updates/Discussion:
Upcoming EVENTS:
- July 3rd – Fireworks & Flares
- Flares at 9:30 p.m. and Fireworks at 10:00 p.m.
- Flares are available at Bob’s, Gallo’s, Toadz for $3.00 each
- July 4th – Boat Parade – Summer/Winter Olympics Theme
- Rooftop Concert – details in progress
- August 17th – Concert in the Cove
- September 1st – Family Fishing Derby
Channel Dredging
- First dredging done
- Scheduled for 3 additional dredging
- Currently the depth is at 9 feet
Weed Harvesting
- Wayne County Soil & Water (WCSW) manages weed harvesting
- Ron Thorne replaced Lindsey Gerstenslager as District Manager
- Harvesting will start at Port Bay on Monday, June 10th
- Currently, the weed harvester is in the water at the South Launch
Beaver Culvert Project
- Good news - Town of Huron will be managing
- Money is budgeted
- Plans are to be done 1-2 weeks after Labor Day 2024
- There will be 4 culverts going in
- We cannot do any REDI projects till this culvert is completed
- Culvert Project is state funded
- Question: will this culvert accommodate kayaks? Paul Way stated it will accommodate 5-to-9-foot kayaks.
NOAA: Marine Sanctuary in Lake Ontario
- Lori Furguson has made contact and has asked for an update
- There will be an announcement this Summer
- No effect on Port Bay
- PBIA will publish updates
REDI:
- Question: What is REDI project? REDI was established because of past high waters on Lake Ontario. The State committed to re-enforce the Barrier Bar, the Pier, and to fix the road leading to the North Launch
- Construction planned to start the Summer of 2024
- REDI Commission Project – All details can be found on the WCSW website. www.waynecountynysoilandwater.org

SPECIAL RECOGNITION of JODY ROSE
- We lost this year a very important/special Port Bay resident – Jody Rose
- Jody was the leader of our Boat Parade
- Jody was always there and took great pride in volunteering and staying involved in Port Bay
- TOAST to a fabulous friend and great neighbor. NEVER to be forgotten!
