PBIA Annual Meeting Minutes

June 10, 2023

 

Meeting called to order on June 10, 2023 at 5:45 p.m.

Secretary Report:  Becky Hilbert

  • A brief reading of the June 11, 2022 Secretary Report was given.  Details of the report can be found on the PBIA website.
  • Secretary Report approved

 

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Treasurer’s Report 2022 in the annual meeting brochure
  • Motion made by Jeff Auser to approve Treasury Report
  • Seconded by Jon Post
  • Treasurer’s Report 2022 approved

 

Updates/Discussion:

 

Upcoming EVENTS:

  • July 3rd – Fireworks & Flares
  • July 4th – Boat Parade – Halloween Theme
  • August 5th – Rooftop Concert 6:00-8:30 p.m.
  • August 19th – Boats & Floats
  • September 3rd – Family Fishing Derby
  • Sammy T’s Bayfront – will open on Friday, June 23rd at 4 p.m.

 

Channel Dredging

  • First dredging took place on April 1, 2023
  • Scheduled for 3 additional dredging

 

Weed Harvesting

  • Weed harvesting will start the week before July 4, 2023
  • WCSWA 2 full time crews working in 1 location at a time
  • 1 Harvesting team will be in Port Bay for 3 weeks

 

Culvert project at Beaver Creek

  • Permit has been submitted
  • Projected start date is just after Columbus Day this Fall
  • Culvert Project is state funded

NOAA: Sanctuary in Lake Ontario

  • NOAA wants to mark of all 43 ship wrecks and 1 plane wreck
  • Port Bay is excluded from this project – good news.  No effect on the dredging of the Port Bay Channel
  • Final Plans to be published in about 6 months

 

REDI:  Commissioned state-funded money of $5M for this project

  • Construction planned to start the Summer of 2024
  • REDI Commission Project – All details can be found on the WCSWA website.  Includes West and East Barrier and Channel.

 

Questions:

Question:  What about the extension of the pier?

Answer:  Plans are to encapsulate the pier with new steel sheets.  Pier will remain at the current length.  Break wall will extend a little further south.

 

Question:  We used to dredge out the west side of the pier.  Why did this stop?

Answer:  DEC stopped this.
